Impact Statement The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC) is a community based non-profit agency. We support survivors of sexual violence. We listen, facilitate healing, and celebrate resiliency. Using an intersectional feminist approach, we work to transform systems that promote gender-based violence. Our Vision is a world without sexual violence and oppression.

Description The Group and Workshop Volunteer will provide support to facilitators of groups and workshops. This includes providing emotional support to group participants in breakout rooms/another space and being available to debrief after the group. Most groups are facilitated via Zoom, but there may be an opportunity to support groups in person in the future.
- Attend group/workshop sessions (a staff co-facilitator will always be there as well). - Listen, validate and offer information and options to group members who ask for individual support during or after group sessions. - Respond to group members who are in crisis and use de-escalation techniques to support them. - Support Group Facilitator during sessions. - If in-person, help set up snacks, greet and offer drinks to group members, and help clean up after. - Debrief with Group Facilitator after group session if needed. - Potential to facilitate part of a group/workshop, if there is expertise and prior experience.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Comprehensive training is required and is provided free of charge. All volunteer must first complete an 8-session training program focused on Understanding Sexual Violence. These sessions are delivered virtually via Zoom for 2.5 hours twice per week.
After completing the Understanding Sexual Violence Training, support line volunteers will complete an additional 2-3 training sessions focused on developing practical skills for supporting survivors of sexual violence. Working Conditions: This job requires intense concentration. Repeated exposure to details of violence and assault can lead to vicarious trauma. The need for debriefing, self-care and balance is critical for incumbents in this position. Accessibility: Transportation: NONE Needed

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening Minimum time commitment is one 2-3 hour group per month.
