   About the Position

Impact Statement
Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only service of this kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional.

We continue to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have implemented stringent safety measures to protect our volunteers, staff, partners, and clients. While we all do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19, we must remember that home isn’t a safe place for all. Shelter Movers has experienced a 30% increase in demand since the beginning of the pandemic.

As a volunteer Grant Writer:
You’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact helping women and families transition away from violence.
You’ll gain experience in grant writing and fund development.
You’ll receive training in preparation for your role, and have access to ongoing training opportunities.
You’ll work with a great team of passionate volunteers and supporters.

Shelter Movers Waterloo Region is looking for a motivated individual with a positive attitude, strong research and written communication skills to help us with grant applications.
The grant writer will be reporting to the Fund Development Manager and will be responsible for researching and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, obtain a police reference check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. Grant Writers will also get role-specific training.
Working Conditions: This is a work from home, virtual volunteer position.
Accessibility: Accessible work space
Transportation: NONE Needed

Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Approximately 7-10 hours a month. A 6 month commitment is strongly preferred.
