Position Virtual Reading Buddy - Virtual North Six Reading Buddies
Impact Statement Frontier College is a national literacy organization. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential and contribute to society.
Description Virtual North Six Reading Buddies is an online guided reading program run by Frontier College, in partnership with the North Six Neighbourhood Association, that engages and helps children in grades 2-4 improve their social and reading skills in a safe, fun, and friendly virtual environment. Virtual tutors are then matched up with learners to engage in one-on-one reading facilitated through the Zoom breakout room feature. During the last part of the session, the virtual tutors play games with the learners to further develop their literacy skills.

This volunteer position is currently accepting inquiries for our Winter 2021 semester. (dates below)
Training Details A required 2-hour training will be held during the week of January 25. You must attend this virtual tutor training session in order to become a volunteer tutor. All Frontier College volunteer tutors will have to participate in a 20-minute interview (conducted virtually) as well as submit a volunteer application.
Working Conditions Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.
Duration 3 months or less
Timing Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail Tuesdays - 4:30pm-5:30pm. This program runs weekly from February 2-March 30, 2021 (no program February 16 & March 16).
