United for Literacy

   About the Position

Impact Statement
United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential.

Literacy is recognized as a human right and a driving force to empowerment and prosperity. United for Literacy leads the effort in Canada to help people and communities reach their full potential through the power of literacy.

Description
Virtual North Six Reading Circle is an online guided reading program run by United for Literacy, in partnership with the North Six Neighbourhood Association, that engages and helps children in grades 1-6 improve their social and reading skills in a safe, fun, and friendly virtual environment.

Virtual tutors are then matched up with learners to engage in 1:1 guided e-reading facilitated through Zoom breakout rooms. During the last part of the session, the virtual tutors play games with the learners to further develop their literacy and social skills. Our fall 2024 program session runs from 5:00p-6:15pm on Tuesday afternoons from Oct. 22 until Dec. 3 (7 weeks).
