   About the Position

Help youth see and achieve their full potential by being a tutor.


Description
In partnership with local grassroots organizations, we have expanded access to tutoring support across Waterloo Region.

In-person tutoring is available at sites across the Region with virutal tutoring available as well.

Today, more students across the Region can attend and get the academic support they need to achieve success and reach their goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide academic support to students in grades 3-12.
Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
Help students develop self-confidence and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work.
Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
Create a welcoming environment for students.


Position Qualifications

Ideal for: An Individual, Student Placement
Age: 16+ English Proficiency, Confidentiality, Specialized Training

Area(s) of Interest: Children/Youth, Mentoring / Tutoring, Newcomer Support

Skill(s): Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity, Communicate in Plain Language, Motivate Others, Sensitivity, Accountability


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Orientation will be provided.
Staff will be available to provide ongoing support during sessions
Working Conditions: *Please note, volunteers are not matched with the same student each week. This is a group environment.

In-Person Tutoring - held in group settings in community centres or schools.
Tables set up, quiet space.

Virtual Tutoring - must have a quite and private space to work as well as secure and reliable internet. Microphone and camera needed.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
We provide tutoring at several locations in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge from September to June. Program follows the school calendar, therefore program does not run on holidays.

Can't commit weekly? We are looking to build our substitute tutor roster.
