Impact Statement | The Region, area municipalities, and Volunteer Action Centre have launched a pandemic volunteer program that places volunteers where they are needed most. It will ensure all agencies, registered volunteers, and the people they serve as part of the COVID-19 response are protected during this state of emergency. |
Description |
The pandemic volunteer pool is a group of community members 18 years of age and over who have been pre-screened and are willing to help agencies who are providing critical community services during the pandemic. Positions will vary depending on your availability, skills and the positions that are needed. Examples of some organizations that you may be matched with: The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, Community Support Connections, oneRoof, the Humane Society. Registered volunteers that placed with an organization through the pandemic volunteer program are eligible for WSIB coverage. Volunteers are not usually eligible, however there are provisions under the WSIB Operational Policy Manual Volunteer Forces (12-04-02) and Emergency Workers (12-04-03), that allow for emergency volunteers to be eligible. |
Training Details | Once matched with an organization, an orientation and training will be provided by their Volunteer Coordinator. |
Working Conditions | Depends on organizations. May range from in-person to virtual. |
