Impact Statement Victim Services of Waterloo Region is fortunate enough to have a fabulous compliment of dedicated volunteers who give their time freely. Without the help of our volunteers, the agency would be unable to provide quality services to the victims of crime and trauma in our Region. While our volunteers are top notch, we are always looking for additional volunteers to enhance our team! There are three types of volunteers: On Call, Team Leader and Board Member.

Description Victim Services of Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization that is available 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide short-term emotional and practical support along with community referrals to victims of crime and tragic circumstances within the Region of Waterloo. Our response is caring, skilled and effective.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be willing to commit to one year of service. Must be willing to commit to a minimum of four shifts per month. Must possess a valid driver’s license, liability insurance and reliable transportation. Must successfully complete an interview, reference and criminal records check, online learning modules, as well as the 60 hour volunteer training program. Must be nineteen years of age or older. Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality. Must be able and willing to work as a team member. The ability to speak an additional language is a definite asset.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Our 60 hour training program is a combination of in-person and virtual learning modules which includes comprehensive coverage on the following: Intimate Partner Violence, Suicide Prevention, Mental Health Support and Services, Trauma and Crisis Intervention, Grief and Bereavement, Human Trafficking, Missing Persons, Safety Planning, Counselling Services, Cultural Sensitivity, Criminal Justice System, Legal and Financial Matters, Parenting Support and Services, Child and Youth Support and Services Working Conditions: Conditions will vary based on the call that is being responded to. Transportation: Car required

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime, Weekend - Evening, Anytime Volunteers must be willing to commit to four 8 hour shifts per month. Each Crisis Responder chooses their own shifts.
