Impact Statement Hospice Waterloo Region is a charitable organization whose specially trained volunteers help people affected by life-threatening illness, prepare for and cope with illness, loss, grief and death by providing compassionate presence, practical support and education.

Description The Kitchen Volunteer will assist with baking, preparing meals, and making a pot of soup for 11-bed residence. Kitchen Volunteers will comply with health and safety regulations. Kitchen volunteers will be working with the kitchen supervisor, other volunteers or independently with Safe Food Handling Certification or willingness to obtain. Duties also involve following kitchen protocols, maintaining family servery area (stocked, cleaned, organized).
The Kitchen Assistant will help keep the kitchen and dining area clean and organized, wash dishes, utensils and kitchen appliances and ensure their proper storage, assist in some preparation of food, brew coffee, plate desserts for residence. Kitchen Assistant volunteers will be working with the kitchen supervisor or other kitchen volunteers
We are looking for both weekday and weekend shifts. -Monday thru Friday weekday shifts weekly or bi-weekly -Saturday and Sunday weekly or bi-weekly shifts

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: The Kitchen Volunteer must attend 5-hour orientation and training and complete all associated training modules and tasks. Applications for this training are being accepted now. Working Conditions: Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers Transportation: Car required

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Weekday - Daytime Kitchen Volunteers will be asked to be available for 2-3 hour shifts weekly or bi-weekly. Day time and weekend availability is preferred. Greatest area of need are weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday).
