   About the Position

Impact Statement
Volunteers help us create partnerships that provide relevant, individualized, and innovative services for persons supported by EDCL. We Advocate, Educate and Facilitate the participation of the Community in achieving the individual’s life vision.

By reading a story to an adult with an intellectual disability, you bring the words on a page to life by engaging their imagination. This activity inspires connection, improves mental wellbeing and is truly enjoyed by many of the people we support.

The ideal candidate is patient, has good interpersonal and communication skills, and takes on new challenges with a positive attitude.

Commitment: 1hr/week, min. 12 weeks (to establish trust with assigned person)

Skill(s): Communicate in Plain Language, Written Communication, Sensitivity, Respect, Flexibility

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Free Training and Orientation provided. (self-directed online modules for flexibility, or in-person can be arranged)
Working Conditions: In a residential setting. Staff are nearby but not immediately supervising.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route

Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
1-hour shift weekly (day & time flexible)
