Peer Grief Support Facilitator

Impact Statement Your grief experience can bring hope and healing. All of our programs are facilitated by volunteer facilitators who are themselves bereaved. Hearing experiences, stories and coping strategies from a peer has a profound effect on people who are grieving and helps normalize the grief experience. You get it. You've been there.

Description All of our grief support groups are facilitated by volunteers who are themselves bereaved, and offer a unique compassion and empathetic understanding of grief and grief support to our program members. Using your own bereavement experience, as a peer support facilitator, you will believe in the benefits of peer support to facilitate bereaved individuals in a group setting.
We are looking for volunteers to participate in our Facilitator training to prepare themselves to facilitate our bereavement groups.
Our groups include:
- Parents grieving the death of an infant: For individuals/couples grieving pregnancy loss, infant, or toddler - Parents grieving the death of a child: For individuals or couples grieving the death of a child at any age, including adult children. - Good Grief: For teens ages 13-17 - Living with Loss: Mixed-loss group for adults 18+ - Living with Loss by Substance Use: For adults 18+ grieving a death by alcohol or drug use

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Individuals will go through an interview process, our 20 hour facilitator training, and we will check references before confirming volunteer status. Working Conditions: Various in-person and virtual locations (depending on the group). The training will take place virtually and The Family Centre in Kitchener (65 Hanson Ave.) Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space Transportation: On a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Weekday - Evening Facilitator Training: Next training will take place in Spring 2024
