   About the Position

Impact Statement
As a registered charity, SPECTRUM relies on a strong Board of Directors to govern the organization. The Secretary is a critical member of our Board of Directors.

Board members must be members of the organization by making a financial contribution of any amount or volunteering at least 30 hours each fiscal year (August-July). Board terms are two years long, and no member may serve more than six terms. SPECTRUM’S Board can have up to 13 members at a time.

Why Volunteer//What You’ll Get Out of It:

Help ensure governance of SPECTRUM so the organization can provide services and
programs for the benefit of LGBTQ2+ communities in Waterloo Region

An opportunity to network and build connections within the community

A sense of community and build relationships with other LGBTQ2+ individuals

What You’ll Be Doing:
Be an active member of the Board of Directors (BOD), attending monthly meetings

Prepare and send monthly agenda packages for BOD meetings, take minutes at each
meeting, and ensure transparency so that all BOD and community members understand
the contents and decisions in BOD meetings

Be an active member of the Executive Committee (EC), attending monthly EC meetings
and taking minutes

The Secretary may join other SPECTRUM committees

A minimum commitment of two years with approximately four to six hours of work

What You Bring to the Team:

Ability to collect and present information clearly and logically

Fast typing skills and the ability to type notes while simultaneously the following meeting discussions

Strong written and verbal communication

The desire for and commitment to continued learning

Proficiency with the Google suite of products, and with word processing

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: The organization's leadership will train the chosen candidate in the needs and functions of the role.
Working Conditions: Office setting, work from home, computer skills are required
