   About the Position

Impact Statement
As a not-for-profit organization, the GVTA is administered by a volunteer board of directors. The trail was built and is maintained through a large network of volunteer maintenance workers who ensure a strong and safe trail system. The association offers organized hikes through a network of volunteer certified hike leaders who offer a range of hikes throughout the year. There are countless volunteers who help with the running and administration of the association. We would not exist if not for our enthusiastic volunteers.

This is a GVTA board position. The Hike Coordinator ensures that the association offers safe, regular and organized hikes to its members and that the hikes offered are targeted to the demographics of the members and potential members. Main responsibilities include:
- Manage the GVTA Hike Program
- Recruits hike leaders, ensuring that the hike program has a sufficient number of leaders
- Coordinates leaders’ training and certification through Hike Ontario
- Organizes and chairs hike leader meetings to share information, provide a forum for questions and answers; meetings held at coordinator’s discretion
- Maintains up-to-date inventory of hike leaders including certification, proof of first-aid certificates, number of hikes lead
- Directs all hike leaders
- Prepares monthly reports to update board and an annual report on Hikes for Annual General Meeting
- Maintains waivers, first aid certification, leadership certifications.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Training will be provided by GVTA Board Members and there will be transition meeting(s) with the previous Hike Co-ordinator.
Working Conditions: While the hikes are outdoors within the GVTA, this role requires excellent communications and some basic computer skills in order to be successful.
Transportation: Car required

Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
The GVTA Hike Co-ordinator works with Hike Leaders to review, approve and report on GVTA sanctioned hikes. Non-GVTA Hikes may also be advertised to our GVTA membership through our GVTA website.

Hike Co-ordinator duties are estimated at a minimum of 8 hours/month, with more in the spring, summer and fall.

Board Meetings take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month (except January and July) from 7-9pm.
