   About the Position

Volunteers play a valuable role at both houses; their support is vital and integral to the ongoing operation of the hospice and is greatly appreciated.

Description
Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice is looking for direct-service Resident Care volunteers to provide compassionate care to residents in end-of-life care at Innisfree House in Kitchener. Volunteers duties include assisting with feeding and repositioning, reading, writing, talking, assisting with our Art from the Heart Legacy Program, vigiling, or simply providing a supportive and comforting presence.

When appropriate, Resident Care volunteers may take on an indirect-service role and assist with dishes, laundry, housekeeping, etc.

Volunteers must be non-judgmental and have incredible listening skills, empathy, and understanding of boundaries. This role requires a high level of training and commitment.

In addition to regular shifts, we are also looking for volunteers with flexible schedules who would be able to fill in when regularly schedule volunteers are ill or absent.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: A combination of classroom and online training up to 35 hours in length is required and provided upon successful acceptance. Police Records - Vulnerable Sector check is mandatory. Volunteers must complete some training annually.
Working Conditions: Volunteers must be non-judgmental and have incredible listening skills, empathy, and understanding of boundaries. This role requires a high level of training and commitment. Work is directly in resident rooms with residents and their loved ones. Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, use dexterity, and lift up to 30 lbs.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Accessible work space
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Daytime, Weekend - Daytime
We are currently looking for volunteers to fill a variety of weekday and weekend shifts. Available shifts are 9 am - 12pm, 12-3 pm and 3-6 pm.
