Impact Statement Hospice of Waterloo Region (HWR) is a charitable organization whose specially trained volunteers help people affected by life-threatening illness, by providing emotional and social support, by providing compassionate presence, and by providing practical support and education.

Description Hospice is seeking a Hairstylist Client Support Volunteers to provide hair cuts and hair styling to individuals living with life-threatening illness and their caregiver. While providing hair cuts/styling, nice wash, scalp massage; our Hair Salon Volunteers provide emotional and social support to the client/caregiver.
Hair Salon Volunteers will hold a current hairstylist license or certification and, have professional experience as a hairstylist. Experience hairdressing with older adults is an asset.
Hair Salon Volunteers will not perform anything with chemicals on the client, i.e. dying hair, highlights or perms. Supplies for hair styling are provided by Hospice Waterloo Region.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: 35 hour course required in-person; the next course will take place in Fall, 2024. If you have daytime availability to attend training and for daytime volunteering applications for this training are being accepted now. Working Conditions: Volunteers will provide hair cuts and styling to their client on-site inside Hospice Waterloo Region, in Waterloo, at HWR's satellite office in Cambridge or in-home withing the community. Our on-site salon in Waterloo, "the Orchid Room", is equipped with professional hair styling sinks, hair dryers and hydraulic salon chair. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation. Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime Volunteers must be available 2 hours each week. Day time availability is preferred.
