   About the Position

Impact Statement
Did you know we make hundreds of meals daily from Monday through Friday?

The Meals on Wheels program provides older adults and adults different abilities (who for various reasons are unable to cook their own meals) with hot and/or frozen nutritious meals. Meals are delivered by volunteers over the lunch hour, while also providing a short friendly chat and a check on their wellbeing; enabling our clients in Waterloo Region to live at home with independence and dignity.

Description
During a Meals on Wheels delivery shift volunteers will:
- Deliver hot and frozen meals to clients as per the order given on the route sheets (approximately 7-13 clients, varying on the day and service demand)
- Carry out brief security check and provide social contact to clients
- Report any undelivered meals or absent clients to the office
- Report any concerns you may have about clients to the office
- Treat all information regarding clients on your route with complete confidentiality

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: All volunteers will receive both agency wide and program specific training before their first shift. Shadow shift completed with experienced volunteer prior to first delivery shift.
The Program Coordinator is available to discuss concerns and to provide ongoing support as needed.

Community Support Connections offers regular volunteer educational workshops on various topics. All volunteers are notified of upcoming sessions.
Working Conditions: Requirements:
- Access to a safe and reliable vehicle
- Have a valid G class driver's license
- Minimum $1 million in liability car insurance

Delivery shifts are approximately 60-90 minutes between 11:00am and 1:00pm, Monday - Friday; no deliveries on weekends or statutory holidays.
Must be physically fit to lift and carry thermal meal bags - approximately 20lbs.
Works well to share this role with a family member/friend who can help either drive or deliver.
Mileage reimbursements are available.

Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime
Delivery shifts take place between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Each delivery route will take approximately 1-1.5 hours.
