Meals On Wheels

Community Support Connections

   About the Position

Impact Statement
Did you know we make hundreds of meals daily from Monday through Friday?

The Meals on Wheels program provides older adults and adults different abilities (who for various reasons are unable to cook their own meals) with hot and frozen nutritious meals. Meals are delivered by volunteers over the lunch hour, while also providing a short, friendly chat and a check on their well-being - enabling our clients in Waterloo Region to live at home with independence and dignity.

By giving 60 - 90 minutes of your time, you will ensure that seniors and adults with disabilities have access to daily essential nutrition needs. You will also help them to feel more secure in their homes, due to a friendly volunteer checking in on them.

Description
How Adopt-A-Route works:
- Your group 'adopts' a Meals on Wheels route, committing to deliveries one day per week.
- Your group members complete the onboarding process as volunteers
- One team member becomes the main contact between our staff and your group, scheduling the trained members to cover that route week to week.
- Although one person can complete the route, having two or three staff members deliver together offers team-building opportunities, enhancing workplace culture and learning new skills all while serving the community.

During a Meals on Wheels delivery shift, volunteers will:
- Deliver hot and/or frozen meals to clients as per the order given on the route sheets (approximately 7-13 clients)
- Carry out brief security check and provide social contact to clients
- Report any undelivered meals or absent clients to the office
- Report any concerns you may have about clients to the office
- Treat all information regarding clients with confidentiality
