   About the Position

Description
Through a partnership that includes local grassroots organizations and the Waterloo Region District School Board, Region-Wide Tutors:

-Provide academic support to students in grades 3-12.
-Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
-Help student develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
-Create a welcoming environment for students.
-Help students develop self-confidence and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work.
-Attend/login for scheduled shifts and keep track of your time; enter hours using volunteer portal.
-Notify staff when absent

* Please note, this program follows the school calendar and breaks for summer and holidays.


Position Qualifications

Ideal for: An Individual, Student Placement
Age: 16+ English Proficiency, Confidentiality, Specialized Training

Area(s) of Interest: Children/Youth, Mentoring / Tutoring, Newcomer Support

Skill(s): Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity, Communicate in Plain Language, Motivate Others, Sensitivity, Accountability


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Orientation will be provided.
Staff will be available to provide ongoing support during sessions.
Working Conditions: *Please note, volunteers are not matched with the same student each week. This is a group environment.

In-Person Tutoring is held in group settings in community centres or schools in Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo.

Virtual Tutoring requires a quiet and private space to work as well as secure and reliable internet. Microphone and camera needed.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Tutoring times vary by location and day of week, starting as early as 3pm and ending as late as 9pm.
