Volunteer Driver

Wheels of Hope

Canadian Cancer Society

   About the Position

Impact Statement
During supper one night, my wife mentioned that the Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels of Hope, a volunteer driver program, was short on drivers. There weren’t enough volunteers able to drive cancer patients to and from the cancer centre to receive their life-saving treatments. I was about to retire and knew I’d have spare time, so I decided to volunteer with Wheels of Hope. That was 19 years ago, and I’m still driving to this day.

The decision to volunteer was simple – my wife and I have enjoyed a nice life in this community and want to pay it back through volunteering. As a volunteer driver for Wheels of Hope, I have something rewarding that keeps me busy and lets me meet so many nice people. -Glen

Description
The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteers who are interested in transporting clients to and from cancer-related appointments.

Our volunteer drivers provide much needed transportation to appointments for clients who typically have no other way there. During a time filled with stress, our drivers give our clients one less thing to worry about. Volunteers must have a valid drivers license and insurance, a safe driving record (no more than three demerit points), and a 100% smoke-free vehicle. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

We are in need of drivers for both local and out of town trips. This is a great way to meet new people and support those in your community!
