Pandemic Volunteer
Volunteers Wanted for Pandemic Volunteer ProgramAs part of the COVID-19 response, the Region, area municipalities, and Volunteer Action Centre have launched a pandemic volunteer program that places volunteers where they are needed most in the community. The focus of this program is to keep all agencies, registered volunteers, and the people they serve protected during this state of emergency by offering WSIB coverage if screened here. This program helps us to support community organizations that are providing services in support of those in need until the state of emergency is over. It also puts us in a good position to mobilize quickly to deploy volunteers during future emergencies. Benefits to both Volunteers and Organizations. Many local agencies are providing critical services to the community during the pandemic. This is a very busy and challenging time for these organizations. We are recruiting volunteers 18 - 69 (at present), for the pandemic volunteer “pool” to support agencies in Waterloo Region. Volunteers in this pool will be matched with opportunities as they come available. Watch a video with reflections from current volunteers. Under 18? Visit VAC’s youth page for options available. Interested in volunteering? At this time, positions available through the pandemic program are low to medium risk and include drivers and making friendly phone calls to people who are lonely or isolated. If you are 18 years of age and under 70 and are interested in joining the pool, you will need to:
Once you are in the pool, you will be contacted if a position opens up that matches your skills, interests, and availability. You will be required to complete an interview with the agency, as well as attend orientation and training. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for more information on the application process, matching, and placement.
