   About the Position

Impact Statement
Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only service of this kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

We continue to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have implemented stringent safety measures to protect our volunteers, staff, partners, and clients. While we all do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19, we must remember that home isn’t a safe place for all. Shelter Movers has experienced a 30% increase in demand for our services since the beginning of the pandemic.

Description
Movers are key to our organization's work in helping survivors of gender based violence. Movers make up the bulk of our volunteers, so you'll be in good company!

In a group of 2-6 volunteers, Movers help pack and move a Client’s belongings. Movers who have a valid driver’s license can additionally volunteer to drive the rented moving vehicles. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a big impact in a small amount of time. Each move is an average of ~4 hours, and you can sign up for moves as your schedule allows.

Working as part of a team, you will:
-Assist clients in transitioning to their new life by helping move and store the client’s belongings
-Maintain communication with your team members
-Respect client confidentiality
-Work with law enforcement when necessary
-Uphold Shelter Movers’ protocols and procedures to ensure the health and safety of volunteers and clients
