Impact Statement Shelter Movers is a federally incorporated, volunteer-based non-profit organization that provides free moving and storage services to women and children fleeing abuse in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Halifax. Shelter Movers collaborates with women’s shelters, local businesses and law enforcement to support families transitioning to a life free of violence.

Our vision is a Canada where fleeing abuse is easier, safer and better supported. As such, we are looking to expand to other cities across Canada where Shelter Movers’ services would be beneficial. The need for a Montreal chapter of Shelter Movers has been expressed by members of the local Violence against Women sector.
Description We are looking for 4 passionate individuals who are interested in joining a team that is working towards the establishment of a Waterloo chapter of Shelter Movers. This would involve replicating Shelter Mover’s existing service delivery model (with support and guidance from Shelter Movers staff). The following skills and backgrounds would be considered an asset:
Project management, prior experience or interest in the Violence Against Women sector, Survivor experience, Fundraising / Sales, Bookkeeping, Social media management and content creation, and Public speaking / media interviews.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about playing a role in reducing the barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, are self-starters/leaders, and can put in the work (~4 hours per week), to demonstrate that. We are requesting that interested applicants be willing to commit to a minimum 6 month term, to be able to see the creation of the chapter through to its opening.
