Circle of Friends Volunteer

KW & Cambridge

Mennonite Central Committee Ontario (MCC)

   About the Position

Impact Statement
Invest in a person. Build a relationship. Be a friend. The heart of the Circle of Friends Program is walking alongside people – really knowing them, putting in the time, and being willing to learn from them too. It's mutually transformative in a way that deeply touches the lives of participants and volunteers alike.

Recognizing the effectiveness of this program - Circle of Friends has just received new funding to expand the program to the Cambridge area AND to expanded our support to creating Circle of Friends for men.

Description
As a volunteer for Circle of Friends you will join with a small group of 2-3 other volunteers to form a "circle of support" for an individual as they transition from homelessness and shelter-living back into stable housing and community. By meeting together virtually once a week for a year, you will help to reduce the loneliness and isolation experienced by so many who transition from homelessness.

Circles meet virtually as a group once a week for about two hours.
Circle meetings might include virtual coffee hour, creating a budget, accessing a food bank. Activities and processes are tailored to meet individual needs: perhaps one week working on budgeting, and the next simply visiting.
