Through a network of thousands of volunteers, Frontier College is helping people realize their potential and seize the opportunities that come their way.

Description The virtual homework program is run by Frontier College in partnership with the Somali Canadian Association of Waterloo Region (SCAWR). This evening homework club was developed to address the needs of newcomers and refugees from East Africa. The program serves all new immigrants in Waterloo Region. The focus of the program is to provide academic support to students in grades 2 - 12. You must be 16 years of age or older to apply.
This volunteer position is currently accepting applications for our spring 2022 program session running from the week of May 9 until the week of June 20 (7 weeks).

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: All Frontier College volunteer tutors are required to attend a mandatory 2.5-hour virtual volunteer tutor training on either Thurs. Apr. 28 from 6:30pm-9:00pm or Tues. May 3 from 6:30pm-9:00pm. All applicants will be asked to attend a 20-minute interview (over Zoom) sometime between April 20-May 3 and complete a 45-minute online training module. All volunteers 18+ must have a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check in order to tutor. Working Conditions: Virtual program (Via Zoom). Accessibility: Support Newcomers Transportation: NONE Needed

Time Commitment
Duration: 3 months or less Weekday - Evening The program runs 6:15pm-7:45pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers are only required to volunteer one night/week.
