Virtual Tutor - Spring session

Impact Statement Literacy is an essential skill in today's world. At Frontier College, we believe it's a fundamental right. As a volunteer tutor you will become an essential part of Frontier College - Canada's original literacy organization.

Description In partnership with YMCA of Three Rivers Immigrant Services, YMCA 1:1 Family Language & Learning volunteers assist ELL (English Language Learner) students through virtual literacy training and homework help. The tutors will support learners from grades 1-12 in developing their writing, reading, and math skills. The tutors utilize their strengths and work online to support learners on an individual basis.
Must be 18 years of age or older to apply. There is a particular need for volunteers who speak a second language (especially French, Spanish and Arabic). This volunteer position is currently accepting applications for our spring 2022 semester starting the week of May 2 or May 9, 2022 and running until the week of June 20, 2022.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Mandatory 2.5-hour training to be held on either Thurs. Apr. 28 from 6:30pm-9:00pm or Tues. May 3 from 6:30pm-9:00pm (via Zoom). You must attend a 20-minute volunteer interview (to be held between Apr. 20-May 3) and attend either April 28 or May 3 training session in order to become a volunteer tutor. All volunteers must have a current Police Vulnerable Sector in order to tutor. Working Conditions: Virtual (via Zoom or Google Meet) Accessibility: Support Newcomers Transportation: NONE Needed

Time Commitment
Duration: 3 months or less Weekday - Evening Timing flexible. Tutors are assigned to work with learners during a 1-hour timeslot anytime between 5:00pm-8:00pm, Monday-Thursday.
