Position: English Conversation Circle Assistant
Location: Forest Heights Library, 251 Fischer-Hallman Road Kitchener, ON, Canada

We are looking for people with experience teaching or working with ESL students, to lead or assist with English Conversation Circles at several library locations.

This is a unique opportunity to put your skills to work while creating opportunities for our new neighbours. Through activities, lessons, and games, you’ll help introduce or strengthen conversational English, and share information about Canadian culture and customs. While children are learning English in school, this is your chance to have a lasting impact on the lives of adults.

As an English Conversation Circle Assistant, you will support English Conversation Leaders in facilitating large or small group conversations. You will encourage participants to engage in conversation and provide 1-on-1 support as needed.
Description: Responsibilities
Help with group activities, lessons, and games as assigned by English Conversation Leaders
Perform administrative tasks such as tracking attendance
Generate and share ideas with English Conversation Leaders
Provide constructive feedback and supportive encouragement to participants during program
Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment for participants
Communicate with library staff to ensure success of program

Qualifications:
Previous teaching/instructional experience
Experience/interest in working with English Language Learners from diverse backgrounds
Strong understanding of Canadian culture and customs and have an awareness and/or interest in Newcomer issues
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; high level of English language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
Positive and patient attitude and willingness to be flexible
Enjoy collaborating with a team.
Training Details: Training for successful candidates.
Working Conditions: Meeting room in library setting.
Duration: 4 - 6 months
Timing: Weekend - Daytime
Time Detail: Time: Saturdays from 9:30-11:00am at Forest Heights Library


Duration: September 2018 – May 2019 (with December holiday break and no programs on long weekends)
