Impact Statement Literacy is an essential skill in today's world. At Frontier College, we believe it's a fundamental right. As a volunteer tutor you will become an essential part of Frontier College - Canada's original literacy organization.
Description In partnership with YMCA Immigrant Services, YMCA Family Language and Learning volunteers assist ELL (English Language Learner) students and newcomer families through literacy training and homework help. The tutors will support learners from grades 1-12 in developing their writing, reading, and math skills. The tutors utilize their strengths and work either one-to-one or in small groups. This is an unique program that facilitates social development and promotes education within the family.

Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.There is a particular need for volunteers who speak a second language (especially French, Spanish and Arabic). There is also a need for those with advanced mathematics and science knowledge to support learners in grades 11 & 12.

This volunteer position is currently accepting applications for our winter semester from January 29-April 1, 2020 (no program February 19 and March 18).
Requirements English Proficiency, Confidentiality
Training Details Mandatory 3-hour training to be held at the University of Waterloo from 6:00pm-9:00pm on Wed, Jan 22 and Thurs, Jan 23. You must attend one of these sessions in order to become a volunteer tutor.

Timing Weekday - Evening
Time Detail The program runs between 5:00 pm and 6:45 pm on Wednesday evenings from January 29-April 1, 2020 (no program February 19 and March 18).
