Position: Spring Land Management Volunteer
Location: Moyers Landing, Fountain Street South, Cambridge, ON, Canada
Impact Statement: Together with volunteer and community support, rare provides meaningful opportunities for environmental education and stewardship through volunteer restoration activities.
Description: Founded in 2001, the rare Charitable Research Reserve is a charitable organization that owns, stewards and protects a 900+ acre land reserve along the Grand River. Founded on the principles of conservation, research and education, rare’s mission is to preserve its lands intact in perpetuity. Every year, rare takes on new ecological restoration initiatives in order to enhance and rehabilitate the unique native habitats
of this urban land trust.

Join us for different restoration activities throughout the spring in different areas of the rare reserve. Volunteer activities will include removing invasive species that reduce biodiversity and degrade habitat quality, and also transplanting native trees and shrubs.

Invasive Species Removal (Buckthorn) - May 8
Forest Plantation Naturalization - May 16 and May 24
Cliffs and Alvars Invasive Species Management - May 29, June 6, June 16 and June 19
Training Details: No prior training is required. Orientation and basic invasive plant ID will be provided. Any tools needed will be provided.
Working Conditions: Volunteering takes place outside in all types of weather. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended.
Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail: Spring Land Management Days take place once a week. You can participate for either a full day, or a half day, any of the following volunteer events:
May 8th, 16th 24th, 29th, and June 6th, 16th and 19th.
