   About the Position

Impact Statement
The Literacy Group is a non for profit adult education center that develops and delivers accessible and effective literacy programs. We support adults who want to upgrade their skills in reading, writing, numeracy, computer and workplace essential skills. The delivery of our services is possible through the dedicated collaborative work of our experienced staff and volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers to support our cause and work closely with our Group Facilitator to support the students in various groups run by TLG.

Description
Tutoring small (3-10) groups of adults:
helping individual students with reading, writing, or math while the Group Facilitator (Staff) teaches.
May cover for Staff Group Facilitator during an absence.

Programs:
Grammar and Vocabulary- practical grammar for everyday usage and vocabulary expansion for work and life. All program materials will be provided.

Basic and Next Steps Math - Covers content from number sense, addition & subtraction up to multiplying and dividing fractions, percent and decimals.

All Classroom Assistants require:
Training & mentoring (provided by TLG)
Strong communication skills
Basic computer skills
Flexibility and adaptability - modify tutoring style to accommodate the learner
Commitment to 2-6 hours per week
Commitment to continuous learning

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Classroom Assistants must complete TLG's online tutor training. Classroom Assistants who wish to provide coverage during a Staff Facilitator's absence must be mentored and approved by the Facilitator.

Working Conditions: Groups of 3-6 may meet in person. Larger groups meet online via Zoom.
1.5 hour classes
Bi-weekly classes

Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Daytime
Be available for at least 6 months per year and deliver 2-6 hours of training to a group of pre-assessed adults.
