The goal of Respite services at Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region is to offer a break to adults with a disability who live year-round with family. See Waterloo Region with fresh eyes, or rediscover the creature comforts of a good home, all by sharing a weekend with someone new!

Description
Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region is piloting an exciting new option to provide companionship and personal support for adults living with a disability, at a comfortable home-away-from-home – a mini-vacation for both of you!
Catch a show, explore the nearby walking trails, binge a series you both love – Respite is all about relaxing, getting to know each other, and having fun together. Everyone sparkles in their own way, and we want you to help someone shine.

Opportunities are flexible, but tend to range from single weekends to 7 days based on the individual needs and interests of the person staying with you. All positions require a commitment to overnight stays.

Matches are arranged based on schedule, personal compatibility, and the needs of the individual supported. Meet someone new today – and by your second stay, you’ll be catching up with an old friend.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: All training provided by Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region: First Aid/CPR-C; Inclusion Workshop; Additional skills based on individual needs. All volunteers must complete an interview and screening process, including a Vulnerable Sector check.
Working Conditions: At a pre-arranged Airbnb rental unit for up to 7 days or less
Accessibility: Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime, Weekend - Evening
