United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential.

Description
Virtual North Six Reading Buddies is an online guided reading program run by United for Literacy, in partnership with the North Six Neighbourhood Association, that engages and helps children in grades 1-6 improve their social and reading skills in a safe, fun, and friendly virtual environment.
Virtual tutors are then matched up with learners to engage in 1:1 guided e-reading facilitated through Zoom breakout rooms. During the last part of the session, the virtual tutors play games with the learners to further develop their literacy and social skills. Our spring 2024 program session runs from 4:30pm-5:45pm on Tuesday afternoons from May 14 until June 25 (7 weeks).

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: A required 2.5-hour virtual tutor training will be held on either Wed. May. 1 from 6:00pm-8:30pm or Sun. May 5 from 10:00am-12:30pm.
Must attend:
- one of these virtual tutor training sessions
- 20-minute interview (conducted virtually) between April 17-April 26 (time flexible)
- submit an online volunteer application.
Working Conditions: Virtual (over Zoom). Must be 16+ to volunteer with United for Literacy. Please fill out the volunteer inquiry form (https://www.unitedforliteracy.ca/Volunteer) and then we will follow up with an application form and information regarding next steps in our new volunteer tutor onboarding process.

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime
Tuesday afternoons- 4:30pm-5:45pm.
