Position Board Member - Board of Directors

Impact Statement We are seeking transformational leaders and strategic thinkers with a vision and passion to eliminate the barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities to join our volunteer Board of Directors.

Our vision is for a Waterloo Region where everyone belongs – where we value meaningful relationships, honour choices and dreams, and celebrate the uniqueness of each person.

We are a non-government funded, registered charity that provides person-directed planning, independent facilitation and social support network development for youth, adults and seniors who identify with a disability and barriers to inclusion. We also provide specialized services for affordable housing and supported employment/entrepreneurship through our BE at Home and BE at Work.

We value and recognize the importance and contribution of families and caregivers and provide various support including Future Planning Workshops.
Description We are seeking people who will:
- Act as ambassadors for our organization inside the board room and out in the community
- Contribute to the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan.
- Contribute towards the financial health and sustainability of our organization through donations, participation in fundraising events and campaigns, and identifying and cultivating relationships in the community
- Ensure our activities align with our mission, vision, values, and strategic plan
- Commit to regularly attend, be prepared for, and actively participate in board meetings.

Desired Skills:
We are seeking board members who are passionate about the values of our organization and have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Finance / Accounting
- Legal
- IT
- Communications and Public Relations
- Fund Development
- Other skills and experiences that will enrich our organization.
Training Details You will be matched with a board 'mentor' and provided with the materials necessary for you to understand your role and responsibilities.

Working Conditions Preparation for meetings can be done from home - meetings will be held in-person and in an office setting
Duration 1 year or more
Timing Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail You will be required to read pre-board meeting materials and attend monthly board meetings held on the 3rd Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30.
The reading and preparation portion approximately take about 4 hours prior to each meeting. Board members may also participate in other board committees.
