   About the Position

Impact Statement
The goal of the FAB FIT (Functional Ability and Functional Independence Training) program, an in-home one-on-one gentle exercise program, is designed to help housebound seniors and adults with different abilities in maintaining or improving their functional fitness and independence. Functional fitness is about strength, endurance, balance and flexibility.

Regular gentle exercise contributes to:
-Overall physical health and well-being
-Prevention of many lifestyle diseases
-Improved management of chronic conditions
-Prevention of or decreased severity of falls
-Improved mental health
-Enhanced emotional and social wellbeing
-Increased independence through the maintenance of functional fitness and mobility

By sharing your time, you will be helping clients stay in their homes and stay active, while alleviating feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Description
Volunteers visit housebound clients for approximately one hour per week over a 12 week period. If you are passionate about health and fitness and are looking to gain hands-on experience in working with older adults and adults with different abilities, this is the ideal volunteer opportunity for you!

There is currently an extra need for volunteers to assist with clients in the Cambridge area.


Position Qualifications

Ideal for: An Individual
Age: 18+ English Proficiency, Confidentiality, Specialized Training, Work Without Supervision

Area(s) of Interest: Health Care / Wellness, Recreation/Sports, Senior Services

Skill(s): Coaching, Interpersonal Communication, Motivate Others, Sensitivity, Empathy


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Volunteers must complete both online and in-person (totaling approx. 6 hours) training before being matched with any clients.
Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A training required prior to any visits.

Community Support Connections offers regular volunteer educational workshops on various topics. All volunteers are notified of upcoming sessions.
Working Conditions: One-on-one sessions are held in client's homes throughout Waterloo Region. Clients and their homes are pre-screened by staff.
There is currently extra need for volunteers in the Cambridge area.
Transportation: Car required


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Anytime
Flexible time commitment. Visits are scheduled at a mutually convenient time for both volunteer and client. A four month commitment is encouraged for this position.
