Impact Statement The Grand Valley Trail was built and maintained through a large network of volunteer maintenance workers who ensure a strong and safe trail system. A volunteer Board of Directors administers this not-for-profit organization and therefore we would not exist if not for our enthusiastic volunteers.

Description The GVTA offers organized hikes through a network of volunteer certified hike leaders who offer a range of hikes throughout the year.
Trail Directors are responsible for recruiting and training volunteer maintenance workers, assisting in organizing the trail maintenance tasks and maintaining relationships with landowners for their section of the Grand Valley Trail (GVT). Two Trail Directors are needed - one for Haldimand County and the other to manage the trail north of West Montrose.
Trail Directors needed to manage their section of the trail. This position is responsible for recruitment, training and supervision of Trail Captains. - Understand the standards of trail maintenance adopted by the GVTA and teach Trail Captains these standards. You would also help Trail Captains identify re-routes as needed and other duties as required for maintenance.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Training will be provided by other Trail Directors and the Trail Maintenance VP. A Trail Maintenance Manual is available. Working Conditions: While the work of the trail maintenance team is outdoors - this role requires good communications and some basic computer skills in order to be successful. Accessibility: Support volunteers with special needs Transportation: Not on a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Anytime Trail Directors work with the VP Trail Maintenance to report on issues, trail status, equipment needs and/or landowner issues. Trail Director duties are estimated at a minimum of 8 hours/month, with more in the spring and fall.
