   About the Position

Impact Statement
The Food Bank volunteers dedicate countless hours sorting, packing, and delivering food to the Community Food Assistance Network - a system of 120+ community programs and agency partners throughout Waterloo Region. We are so grateful for all of your help.

The purpose of this program is to ensure that homebound community members receive food support directly to their homes. Volunteers in this program play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable populations by alleviating barriers experienced by those who cannot physically access other food support programs.

Description
Volunteers in this role should have experience driving large vehicles.

They will transport food hampers from The Food Bank of Waterloo Region to the homes of individuals and families in need. In teams of two, volunteers will use a designated vehicle from The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and follow pre-made delivery routes, received at the time of vehicle and hamper pick-up. Volunteers will deliver hampers in a timely and efficient manner and follow health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of the volunteer and hamper recipients.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Onboarding process:
-phone interview
-reference check, driver abstract & vulnerable sector check
-driver test
-role specific training and orientation
Working Conditions: Driving a 20' truck
Repetitive reaching, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds consistently.
Ability to remain focused and attentive while driving and delivering hampers
Ability to maintain professional boundaries at all times
Preparedness to manage logistics and unexpected situations (ie. detours on route, responding to feedback from recipients)

Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Daytime
Volunteers can sign up for any shifts that suite their availability. Shifts typically are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays mid-day.
