   About the Position

Impact Statement
Reception House Waterloo Region is a community – based organization which provides a warm welcome, programs and services to refugees and newcomers who settle in Waterloo Region. These programs and services are aimed at assisting refugees in settlement/integration so that they may lead healthy and productive lives in their new community.

Description
We are seeking youth leaders who have been through the experience of being a newcomer to Canada. As a Youth Advisory Committee member, you will share your unique experience and expertise, provide mentorship to newcomer youth, connect youth with community resources, and help develop a calendar of workshops and learning experiences.

What we are looking for in a committee member:
- Newcomer youth leaders in Waterloo Region
- Ages 13 to 19
- Living in Canada 1 to 6 years
- Passion for equity, inclusion and accessibility
- Desire to empower racialized youth newcomers in our community through your ideas, vision, voice and connections
- Speaking proficiency in English


Position Qualifications

Ideal for: An Individual, Student Placement
Age: 13+

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Volunteers will receive the standard Reception House Volunteer orientation, there will be an online training requirement and organization policies to read and sign. Committee training will be done after during the first meetings.
Working Conditions:
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime
- between 2-4 hours/ month for meetings
- between 6-8 hours/month for attending workshops, events and mentorship
