Impact Statement Our Reading Buddy program allows students in Grades 1 to 4 to practice their reading in a fun and supportive learning environment.
As a Reading Buddy, you will encourage reluctant readers to read aloud, offer reading strategies when needed, and play literacy-based games. Reading Buddies want to share their love of reading with children and provide children with a positive learning experiences.

Description - Start conversations; interact with children in a friendly and positive manner - Help select books that are relevant and suitable to their needs - Read together; play literacy-based games and activities - Explain reading strategies and concepts when needed - Provide positive encouragement - Handle attention or learning challenges in a positive manner - Act as a positive role model for children - Ask staff questions when needed

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: - Reading Buddy orientation session; mandatory attendance - Reading Buddy Manual and Volunteer Handbook provided Working Conditions: Library setting Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers Transportation: On a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 7 - 12 months Weekday - Evening Monday evenings from 6:15pm-7:15pm.
