Kitchener Public Library volunteers enhance library services in our community and make a difference every day!

Description
- Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment
- Facilitate large or small group conversations
- Encourage participants to engage in conversation and provide one-on-one support as needed
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to participants during program
- Engage in conversations in a non-judgmental manner
- Prepare group activities, lessons, and games for assigned weeks
- Share information about library and community resources
- Perform administrative tasks such as tracking attendance
- Contribute to a positive team environment by generating and sharing ideas and tasks
- Report program plans and communicate any issues or concerns with library staff

Volunteers may need to prepare content before each weekly program (approximately 20 minutes).

Skill(s): Communicate in Plain Language, Verbal Communication, Plan and Coordinate, Motivate Others, Empathy


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: At that training, we will discuss program goals and best practices for planning, review available resources, and break out into our volunteer teams to share ideas. A volunteer handbook and program handbook will be provided. Attendance at our volunteer training session is mandatory.
Working Conditions: Library room
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Evening
Time Commitment: Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:30pm; October 2024 - June 2025

Volunteers may need to prepare content in advance of each weekly program (approximately 20 minutes).
