   About the Position

Impact Statement
Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only organization of our kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.
Shelter Movers is expanding into the Waterloo Region and we are looking for a committed and enthusiastic volunteers.

At our core, we aim to remind survivors of their intrinsic worth and the power they are reclaiming in their decision to leave an abusive relationship. At the end of the day, our story is made up of many stories, starting with those of survivors.

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will be expected to stay up-to-date on municipal council meeting agendas and report to the Chapter Director and Managers on relevant issues/topics. As the Civic Engagement Coordinator, you will be following social media for all cities and townships within Shelter Movers Waterloo Region’s service area, making note of any relevant municipal, provincial, and federal events, and presenting important details in regularly scheduled meetings.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, attend an orientation for new volunteers, in addition to signing a confidentiality agreement and obtaining a police reference check. Training and orientation provided by Shelter Movers.
Working Conditions: This is a partially virtual position, must be available to attend meetings where applicable (conference/in-person within the region).
3 - 6 months minimum commitment is strongly preferred.
