Kitchener Public Library volunteers enhance library services in our community and make a difference every day!

English Conversation Circles provide a safe space for newcomers and refugees to practice their English and connect with the community. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English and share information about Canadian culture and customs.

Description
Country Hills KPL is looking for individuals who have experience teaching and/or working with English language learners, an interest in connecting with people with diverse backgrounds, and excellent interpersonal skills. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English, and share information about Canadian culture and customs.
Duties
• Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment
• Facilitate large or small group conversations
• Encourage participants to engage in conversation and engage in a non-judgmental manner
• Prepare group activities, lessons, and games for assigned weeks
• Share information about library and community resources
• Perform administrative tasks such as tracking attendance
• Contribute to a positive team environment by generating and sharing ideas and tasks
• Report program plans and communicate any issues or concerns with library staff

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Volunteer Handbook and English Conversation Circle training meeting
Working Conditions: Library meeting room
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space
Transportation: Car required


Time Commitment

Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Evening
Tuesday evenings 6:30pm - 8pm; mid-October to end of May 2023 with holiday breaks in December
