Description
Are you a multi-lingual individual who is passionate about helping people overcome language barriers?
Are you interested in the Refugee Claim Process? Do you want the possibility to improve your skills as an interpreter while learning about community resources and opportunities for newcomers?

COMPASS is looking for Spanish/English Interpreter volunteers who are able to make a weekly commitment to serving the community alongside us. We offer a warm and welcoming environment, where people can grow, learn, and serve in a safe setting.

Ideal for: An Individual
Age: 18+

Area(s) of Interest: Office Work, Mentoring / Tutoring, Newcomer Support

Skill(s): Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity, Interpersonal Communication, Communicate in Plain Language, Empathy, Respect


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Volunteer interpreters receive:
•Orientation to COMPASS and the role of a volunteer interpreter
•Regular debriefing of interpretation activities for continued improvement
•Opportunity for personal debriefing to process what has been heard and/or experienced concerning content and personal values

Working Conditions: In the office at 230-675 Queen St. S. Kitchener Ontario, for both in-person and Zoom appointments.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Weekday - Daytime
A minimum of ONE of the following weekly commitments;
Mon 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Tues 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thurs 10:00 am to 12:00 pm,
or
Mon 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Tues 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Wed 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thurs 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
