   About the Position

Impact Statement
For over 100 years, the YW has created a safe environment for women, youth and children to learn and grow. We provide a platform for their voices and help them take confident steps towards a brighter future. Whether that’s providing emergency shelter, affordable and supportive housing, quality childcare at one of our childcare centres or school age programs, or hands-on training for youth and women at our employment programs, we help people move forward with dignity and respect. We care about our community and work to make it stronger.

Are you a feminist who is passionate about improving the lives of women and children in our region? The YW-KW is looking for someone with experience in leading a governance board to become the next President of our Board of Directors.

The YW is led by an all-women Board of Directors. These strong leaders ensure that women’s voices are heard in the community and that our services reflect the needs of women today.

A Board of Directors leads an organizations to carry out its governance functions and ensure the organization's activities are compliant and in furtherance of its mission

A president sets agendas and leads all business meetings of the Board and at the annual and special meetings
-Appoint the Chairs of all Board committees except the Leadership and Nominations Committee
-Be an ex-officio member of all Board committees
-Conduct the annual performance evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer and make recommendations to the Board with respect to her performance, continuing tenure and compensation
-Report regularly to the Board on any matter relevant to the governance responsibilities
-Act as the Board’s primary link with the CEO
-Act as a signing authority
-Represent the association on matters of Board policy

Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Meetings (virtual or in-person) are the first Tuesday evening of each month. Meetings and events may occur outside of monthly meetings from time to time.
