   About the Position

Impact Statement
Being a registered charity, SPECTRUM relies on strong volunteers to manage our financials. The Deputy Treasurer role is designed to strengthen SPECTRUM’s Financial Management Committee, including creating budgets for projects or grant applications. The Deputy Treasurer researches, understands and applies knowledge of non-profit finances to help ensure SPECTRUM’s financial resources meet our needs now and in the future. The Deputy Treasurer works closely with the Treasurer in creating and overseeing SPECTRUM’s financial matters, and is an integral part of our Board of Directors’ succession plan.

Description
Board members must be members of the organization by making a financial contribution of any amount or volunteering at least 30 hours each fiscal year (August-July). Board terms are two-years long, and no member may serve more than six terms. SPECTRUM’S Board can have up to 13 members at a time.

SPECTRUM’s Board of Directors has adopted a mixed model of governance. Since the organization is largely volunteer run we use a modified Management Team Model in which members of the Board are tasked with some operational duties in the areas of human resources, financing, fundraising, and public relations. As the organization grows, we are moving towards a governance Board.

Having prior experience as a Board Director would be very helpful. Lived experience as a member of an LGBTQ2+ community or ally is essential. Board members must complete a successful police reference check for the vulnerable sector.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: New Board members will receive appropriate training in governance.
Working Conditions: Role Responsibilities//What You’ll be Doing:
-Be an active member of the Financial Management Committee (FMC), attending monthly FMC meetings
-Research and learn about non-profit finances, bringing this knowledge to the FMC and SPECTRUM’s finances
-Assist with creating budgets for projects or grant applications
-Work closely with SPECTRUM’s Treasurer, with the potential to step into that role in the future
-Oversee financial matters of SPECTRUM in line with best practices and in accordance with governing documents and legal requirements
-Look at forecasting and overall operating budgets
-Ensure appropriate finance processes are in place
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date organizational financial records
