At Bridges to Belonging our purpose is to affirm the inherent dignity and worth of people living with disabilities to walk with them to overcome isolation, live free of barriers to inclusion, and experience belonging.
The BE Friends program is a volunteer platform to support the development of meaningful relationships with the potential of becoming life-long friendships for people with disabilities to enjoy the benefits of social connection, friendship, community, and belonging.

Description As a Buddy, you will be matched with a person with a disability (youth, adults, and seniors) in the Bridges to Belonging community, referred to as Friend, where you will both develop a reciprocal and meaningful relationship and explore inclusive activities to do in the community.
As a Buddy, you can take on a mentor role where you can help your Friend develop a specific skill or activity together (ex. woodworking, art, dancing, etc.) that you are both passionate about. And/or you can both engage in activities you both enjoy in the community that is inclusive, accessible, and provides a sense of belonging (ex. Going for coffee, watching a movie together, going grocery shopping together, reading a book together, going to the museum, or anything else that comes up!)

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Position specific orientation and learning conversation will be provided. Tools, resources and mentorship will be provided. Working Conditions: As a Buddy, you and the Friend will engage in activities you both enjoy in the community. This may include; community events, similar hobbies, going for coffee, etc. How often you meet is based on your schedule/availability. It would be most ideal to meet once a week (4x a month) to be able to develop a meaningful, trusting friendship together. Accessibility: Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Anytime We would like the Buddy to be committed to this program for one year or more. How often the Buddy and Friend meet and at what times is dependent on their individual schedules and availability. The Volunteer Buddy will engage in a 1 hour interview and if selected, a 2-3 hour Orientation before they are matched with a Friend.
