Intake Coordinator

Shelter Movers Waterloo Region

   About the Position

Impact Statement
Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only organization of our kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

Shelter Movers is expanding into the Waterloo Region and we are looking for committed and enthusiastic volunteers.

At our core, we aim to remind survivors of their intrinsic worth and the power they are reclaiming in their decision to leave an abusive relationship. At the end of the day, our story is made up of many stories, starting with those of survivors.

The Intake Coordinator gathers information to help moves happen safely and smoothly. This involves answering emails and phone calls, and collecting information.

Using patience, empathy, and active listening skills in serving people under stress. Being 'on call' during your intake shift to answer phone calls and respond to emails. Working with case workers and clients for intake template related to logistics and safety in move planning. Informing the Intake Manager when the intake process is complete and a move is ready to be assigned to a Move Coordinator.

Our volunteers possess empathy, compassion and excellent communication skills with an ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care.
Attention to detail and consistent follow-up. Reliable work habits.
Experience as Social Worker as asset, but not required.
