Director, Trail Maintenance

Impact Statement As a not-for-profit organization, the GVTA is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The trail was built and is maintained through a large network of volunteer maintenance workers who ensure a strong and safe trail system. The association offers organized hikes through a network of volunteer certified hike leaders who offer a range of hikes throughout the year. There are countless volunteers who help with the running and administration of the association. We would not exist if not for our enthusiastic volunteers.

Description This role is to support Trail Directors and Trail Captains. The Trail Vice-President liaises between the Trail Directors and the Board and ensures that they have the necessary support to deal with emerging issues. This role works with Trail Directors to offer a safe and usable trail that is consistently marked and maintained across the four segments. As well, the Trail Vice-President supports the Trail Directors in maintaining strong relationships with land owners.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Orientation to the GVTA organization and board is provided. Previous trail maintenance experience is strongly encouraged. Working Conditions: With the exception of board meetings 10 times a year in Cambridge, most volunteer work is done independently from your home or office at your convenience between meetings. The VP must have access to a phone, a computer and the internet. As needed, the Trail Maintenance Vice-President would be required to find a suitable location, for example, a coffee shop, to meet with volunteers they oversee. Transportation: Car required

Time Commitment
Duration: 1 year or more Anytime The Trail Maintenance VP is expected to attend monthly Board or Planning meetings and respond to inquiries from Trail Directors regularly (estimating about 2-4 hours week). You may be required to go to the trailhead/trail section to meet with trail maintenance team and/or landowners.
