   About the Position

Impact Statement
Our nearly 2,000 staff, physicians and volunteers provide excellent, compassionate care to hundreds of thousands of patients and families. St. Mary's General Hospital believes in putting the patient and family at the heart of every decision and empowering them to be partners in their care.

Patient and family advisors are individuals who volunteer their time and experience to improve the quality and experience of the care provided through St.Marys. They bring their lived experience as a patient or family member in our health system to help inform improvement. The representative is a person who has had a recent experience (generally within 3 years) of being a patient or the family member of a patient.

The role of the advisor is to share their insights, perspectives, and experiences, listen to the insights, perspectives and experiences of those who work in the system all with an aim to collaboratively advance patient and family centred care and elevate patient

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Orientation to the hospital and to the Advisory Council will be provided.
Working Conditions:
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers

Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Currently the PFAC meets on the second Monday of the month, six (6) times annually: September, November, January, March, May and June. Members are required to attend at least five meetings per year in order to hold their term.
The term for PFAC members is two years, renewable for a maximum of 2 terms (4 years).
