   About the Position

Impact Statement
Our volunteers are transformational leaders, strategic thinkers with a vision and passion to eliminate the barriers that exist for people with disabilities. Our vision is for a Waterloo Region where everyone belongs – where we value meaningful relationships, honours choices and dreams, and celebrate the uniqueness of each person. As an organization we provide a person-directed planning, independent facilitation and a social support network that is developed for youths, adults and seniors who identify with a disability. In addition, we specialize in affordable housing and that supports employment/entrepreneurship through our BE at Home and BE at Work. In essence, we value and recognize the contribution that family members and caregivers provide to members of our community.

We are seeking people who will:
Act as ambassadors for our organization inside the board room and out in the community contribute to the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan. Board members contribute towards the financial health and sustainability of our organization through donations, participation in fundraising events and campaigns, and identifying and cultivating relationships in the community.
Your involvement helps ensure our activities align with our mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. We hope you can commit to regularly attend, be prepared for, and actively participate in board meetings.

We are seeking board members who are passionate about the values of our organization and have skills and experience in the following areas:

Finance / Accounting, Legal, IT, Communications and Public Relations, Fund Development and other skills and experiences that will enrich our organization.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: You will be matched with a board 'mentor' and provided with the materials necessary for you to understand your role and responsibilities. If this opportunity interests you - the next step is emailing our Executive Director, at [email protected]
Working Conditions: Preparation for meetings can be done from home - meetings will be held in-person and in an office setting

Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
You will be required to read pre-board meeting materials and attend monthly board meetings held on the 3rd Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30. The reading and preparation portion approximately take about 4 hours prior to each meeting. Board members may also participate in other board committees.
