   About the Position

Impact Statement
English Conversation Circles provide a safe space for newcomers and refugees to practice their English and connect with the community. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English and share information about Canadian culture and customs.

Description
We are looking for individuals who have experience teaching and/or working with English language learners, an interest in connecting with people with diverse backgrounds, and excellent interpersonal skills. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English, and share information about Canadian culture and customs.

Duties
• Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment
• Facilitate large or small group conversations
• Encourage participants to engage in conversation and engage in a non-judgemental manner
• Prepare group activities, lessons, and games for assigned weeks
• Share information about library and community resources
• Perform administrative tasks such as tracking attendance
• Contribute to a positive team environment by generating and sharing ideas and tasks
• Report program plans and communicate any issues or concerns with library staff

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Training for successful candidates available online.
Working Conditions: This program takes place virtually over Zoom.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime
Mondays from 2-4pm or Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm or Thursdays from 10-12pm
(with December holiday break and no programs on long weekends)
