   About the Position

Impact Statement
Pioneer Park Library English Conversation Circles provide a safe space for newcomers and refugees to practice their English and connect with the community. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English and share information about Canadian culture and customs.

Description
We are looking for individuals who have experience teaching and/or working with English language learners, an interest in connecting with people with diverse backgrounds, and excellent interpersonal skills. Working as a team, volunteers lead activities and group discussions that facilitate conversational English, and share information about Canadian culture and customs.
Duties
• Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment
• Facilitate large or small group conversations
• Encourage participants to engage in conversation and engage in a non-judgmental manner
• Prepare group activities, lessons, and games for assigned weeks
• Share information about library and community resources
• Perform administrative tasks such as tracking attendance
• Contribute to a positive team environment by generating and sharing ideas and tasks
• Report program plans and communicate any issues or concerns with library staff

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Training for successful candidates available along with Volunteer Handbook.
Working Conditions: In library program room at Pioneer Park Library
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime
Wednesdays 6:30pm - 8pm; mid-October to end of May 2023 with holiday breaks in December
