Literacy is an essential skill in today's world. At Frontier College, we believe it's a fundamental right. As a volunteer tutor you will become an essential part of Frontier College - Canada's original literacy organization.

Description
Volunteer tutors assist newcomer children and youth through virtual literacy training and homework help. The tutors will support learners from grades 1-12 in developing their writing, reading, and math skills. The tutors utilize their strengths and work online to support learners in a small group and 1:1 basis.
There is a particular need for volunteers who speak a second language (especially French, Spanish and Arabic). This volunteer position is currently accepting applications for our fall 2022 session starting the week of October 17 and running until the week of November 28, 2022.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Mandatory 2.5-hour training to be held on either Sun. Oct. 2 from 2:00pm-4:30pm or Wed. Oct. 5 from 1:00pm-3:30pm (via Zoom). You must attend a 20-minute volunteer interview (to be held between Sept. 13-Sept. 26) and attend either October 3 or October 5 training session in order to become a volunteer tutor. All volunteers must provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector in order to tutor.
Working Conditions: Virtual (via Zoom).

Transportation: NONE Needed


Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Evening
Program runs from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings from the week of October 17 until the week of November 28. Volunteers can support one or both weekly sessions.
